Dr. José-Manuel Mascaró Jr. is Professor of Dermatology at the University of Barcelona, and Consultant at the Department of Dermatology of the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona. After obtaining his MD and general Dermatology training in Barcelona, he completed a two-year research fellowship in Immunodermatology at the Department of Dermatology, Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, under the direction of Luis A. Diaz. He is also Board Certified in Dermatopathology (International Board of Dermatopathology, 2004). He is in charge of the Dermatology inpatient unit, and is responsible for the cutaneous autoimmune diseases clinic as well as the transplant recipient’s consultation clinic at the Department of Dermatology of the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona. He is also part of the team of dermatopathologists of the Pathology Department of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, where he is responsible for cutaneous immunofluorescence.

His main areas of interests and research are cutaneous autoimmune diseases (bullous diseases and connective tissue diseases), cutaneous manifestations of transplant patients (solid organ transplantation and haematopoietic stem cells) and Dermatopathology (inflammatory dermatoses and immunofluorescence). He is the author of more than 150 international publications, and a regular speaker at national and international conferences.
